The fundamental operation of a computer can be broken down into four steps, known as the Input-Process-Output (IPO) cycle. 

Input: The computer accepts data from the user through various input devices, such as a keyboard, mouse, or microphone.

Processing: The Central Processing Unit (CPU) executes instructions, performing arithmetic and logical operations on the data.

Storage: The computer saves the data and instructions, either temporarily in Random Access Memory (RAM) for quick access, or permanently on a storage device like a solid-state drive (SSD) or hard disk drive (HDD).

Output: The processed information is presented to the user through an output device, such as a monitor, speakers, or printer.
