difficult to navigate due to potholes and slush. Residents cite unfinished

drainage work as the reason for the poor conditions.  Education loan mela: An education loan event is being held in Madurai today, with participating unions protesting for pension benefits.  Teachers honoured: Six teachers were recognized for their support of

transgender students in the city.  AI and coding classes: Artificial intelligence and coding classes have begun in

72 government schools across Madurai.  Property tax scam: A Madurai court has denied bail to a former corporation

official involved in a property tax scam.

filing returns by one day, to September 16, due to a malfunctioning e-filing

portal.  GST rate changes: FMCG retailers are offering big discounts ahead of the

GST rate shift on September 22. Analysts expect GST reforms to boost

domestic consumption.  Stock market activity: Markets were trading cautiously today ahead of the US

Federal Reserve's decision. Indices closed lower on Monday, but tech buying

pushed the Nasdaq and S&P to new records.  Alphabet's market cap: Google's parent company, Alphabet, crossed a $3

trillion market capitalization, driven by gains in AI and cloud services

key vote on interest rates. The Senate confirmed Trump's other pick, Stephen

Miran, to the Fed board.  Crackdown on "left-wing terror": Following the assassination of conservative

activist Charlie Kirk last week, the White House has promised to crack down

on left-wing groups accused of promoting violence.  Venezuela strikes: For the second time in two weeks, the US military has

destroyed a vessel allegedly carrying drugs from Venezuela, killing three

people. Venezuela has condemned the strikes as an act of aggression.  TikTok deal framework: The White House announced a framework deal with

China for Chinese-owned TikTok to switch to US ownership. However, hurdles

remain before the deal can be finalized.

Russia and Ukraine

 Heightened NATO tensions: Russia and Belarus are conducting joint military

drills amid growing tensions with NATO. NATO allies, including Poland, have

reported drone incursions and the UK has announced fighter jets will join

NATO missions over Poland.  Kremlin threatens NATO: Russia has escalated its rhetoric, with officials

threatening kinetic action against EU states that provide loans to Ukraine

backed by frozen Russian assets.  Conflict developments: Ukrainian drone attacks reportedly killed two women in

Russia's Belgorod region, while Russia claimed it had shot down 82 Ukrainian

drones over a 24-hour period. Russian forces reportedly captured the village

of Olhivske in Ukraine's Zaporizhia region
